“Urban Proposals”
A 2008 project I developed for Mexico City architecture and design magazine Ambientes. In each of the magazine’s six yearly issues, I invited a different local firm to develop a new architectural proposal for an existing, dilapidated Mexico City property. Productora proposes an asymmetrical apartment building for hip yuppies in la Romita; Fernanda Canales and Salon give Luis Barragan’s Torres de Satelite a radical ecological makeover; Jose Castillo and Saidee Springall imagine an abandoned office tower in the Centro Historico as one of Mexico City’s first intentionally parking-less luxury condo buildings; Mauricio Rocha and Gerson Huerta* design a six-floor multi-use structure beneath the puente de los poetas bridge in posh Mexico City area Santa Fe; Rozana Montiel suggests turning Mexico City’s iconic, partially-abandoned 70s-style subway offices into a series of linked gyms/cultural centers.
